This Tātua (belt), “Ngā toru Taniwha”, is woven with Matawai taniwha and Paretaniwha cultivars of harakeke, and features niko taniwha pattern. This tātua symbolises strength, protection and the ever-present influence of ancestral guardians.
It measures 11cm high and 107cm long, and the ties are a further 49cm.
It would make a great addition to a kapahaka outfit or simply for a formal occasion.
