Tooth powder is a great plastic free / zero waste alternative to conventional toothpaste. It does not contain any nasty detergents or chemicals like regular toothpaste but still cleans your teeth and freshens breath. After using this for a year, my dentist reported that my teeth were looking great and my toothpowder sounded absolutely fab!
GRIN comes packaged in a real cellophane bag (not plastic but plant-based), so will need transferring to a jar of your choosing once you receive it. The bag can simply be composted at home.
So what does it contain and why?
> Xylitol: It’s a natural sweetner. It prevents bacteria from sticking to the teeth and neutralizes the pH to help avoid tooth decay.
> Baking Soda: A very mild abrasive (less abrasive than commercial toothpastes) that dislodges plaque on teeth, breaks down stain causing molecules, and neutralizes pH.
> Bentonite Clay: Draws out toxins, contains calcium, and is often used to help remineralize teeth.
> Calcium carbonate: Used to help remineralise teeth
> Peppermint leaf powder* – Mainly used for it’s minty taste
> Lemon verbena powder* – An alternative to peppermint for oral freshness
> Activated charcoal* – Can help with teeth whitening by removing tannins and other toxins.
* Optional items. If you choose the option without either peppermint or lemon verbena it will simply taste like nothing.
1. Dampen your toothbrush with water
2. Dip into the powder and shake off excess or sprinkle some on your hand and scoop up with wet toothbrush
3. Brush as normal and rinse
So consider ditching the soapy, chemical laden paste you squeeze out a of plastic tube, and use something a bit more body and eco-friendly!
Note: This powder does not contain fluoride. I am not making any medical claims regarding this product.
